Create the Google Chrome Logo using CorelDRAW

The Google Chrome logo is the official logo for the web browser by Google. In this tutorial, I will teach you how you can recreate the logo using CorelDRAW. I am using CorelDRAW X7. You can still follow with your version of CorelDRAW.

Step One

Create a new document on CorelDRAW by using CTRL + N. Leave the Resolution at 300. You can choose RGB for primary color mode if your logo is for web display or CYMK if you want to print.

Step Two

Select the Ellipse tool from the toolbox. Draw an ellipse by dragging on the document with the ellipse tool selected. Hold CTRL key while creating to constrain the proportion of the circle

Use the Pick tool to select the ellipse. Go to the property panel and choose 8 as the height and width. Press Enter key after to apply this new setting

Step Three.

With the Ellipse selected, use the shortcut CTRL + C, and CTRL + V to copy and paste the ellipse respectively. Change the width and height of this second circle to 3.5 each and hit Enter key. You can add color to the shapes to distinguish them

Step Four

Select the two circles using CTRL + A on the keyboard. Go to the Shaping options in CorelDRAW.
They include

  • Weld: It will combine your shapes into a single object with uniform fill or outline
  • Trim: Cut out the portion of an object using the shape of another object
  • Intersect: It will create an object from where two objects intersect
  • Simplify: To trim overlapping areas among objects
  • Front minus back: To remove the object at the back from the front
  • Back minus front: To remove the object at the front from the back
  • Create boundary: Create a new object that surrounds the selected object

We will use Trim from the options later

Step Six

Go to the Freehand tool (shortcut key is F5). Left click to reveal other tools within this options. Choose the Two Point line tool.

Drag with this tool on the working space to draw a line. Hold CTRL key while drawing to create a perfect circle.

Click on the line with your mouse. It will add a point of rotation to your line.

Hold the left mouse button, then drag the circle icon from the line to the center of the smallest blue circle

Step Seven

With the line selected, go to Object > Transformations > Rotate (ALT + F8). A dialog box will appear. There are several options like Position, Scale and mirror, Rotate, Size. Choose Rotate. Go to the angle of rotation and input 120. Click Apply.

Two copies of the lines with the angles will be created

Step Eight

Use the Pick tool to select the biggest circle. Also, add the three lines to the selection by holding the SHIFT key while selecting the shapes. After selecting, go to the shaping options in the property panel and choose Trim. It will divide the big circle into three parts

Select the three lines and hit the Delete key on your keyboard to delete

Step Nine

Select the biggest circle with the Pick tool. Go to Object > Break Curves Apart (CTRL + K). It will break the circle into three parts using the lines as reference.

With the Pick tool, select each portion and add color. To add color, go to the color palette and choose the colors to fill each individual portion of the shape

Go to the smallest circle with blue color fill, select it. Choose the Interactive fill tool and drag across the circle to add a gradient to it

Remove the stroke from the shape by selecting all of them using the Pick tool and then use the small handle here to show options. Choose outline color and select none

Fill the between the blue circle and the red, yellow and green shapes. To do this, draw an ellipse of height and width 5, and place at the center of the shape. Add a white color to it.

Move the shape to the back of  our logo, To do this, select the circle you created, go to Object > Order > To Back of Page
