One of the most confusing aspects of working with CorelDRAW is choosing the right color for our design. There are various color profiles that can help us to choose the right type of color for different systems and display. Let us look through some of the important terms you need to know about color profiles.

CMYK Colors

CMYK (stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black) is used to specify document for printing purposes. Each component is represented as a percentage (0 to 100). If you leave all the values of Cyan, Magenta, and Yellow, you get a Black Color. If you allow them at 0, you get a White color. Black is more neutral, darker, less expensive and sharper result for printing.

RGB Colors

The components of RGB are Red, Blue, and Green. White is a product of the combination of these colors at their highest intensities. At their lowest intensities, combining the three colors will produce the black color. The RGB color mode is produced from blends of red, blue and green to produce various colors for monitor and screen displays.

Grayscale Color Mode

If you change a color from color to grayscale, it converts to black and white. The colors are defined by their lightness with values from 0 to 255. The RGB colors have the same values for the three colors.

HSB Colors

HSB colors are also known as HSV. HSB stands for Hue, Saturation, and Brightness. Hue is expressed as a degree and it is the pigment of the color. Red is 0 degree, Yellow is 60 degree, Blue is 240 degrees etc.
Saturation is the intensity of a color. It is represented as a percentage with 100 percent signifying the highest intensity of the color. Brightness is the state of reflection of light by an object. It is also expressed as a percentage from 0 to 100.

Color depth is the maximum number of colors in an image. It is determined by bit depth. If an image has many bit depths, it will contain many accurate colors. e.g. an 8-bit gif has 256 colors while a 24-bit jpeg has 16 million colors. The type of monitor you have will also determine the number of colors displayed on the screen. For example, an 8-bit monitor will only display 256 colors even when the image is 24-bit (16 million colors)
