Learning Adobe Indesign: Basic Knowledge and Functions

Adobe InDesign is a software (part of Adobe Creative Suite alongside Photoshop, Illustrator) used by graphic designers and publishers for desktop publishing and typesetting. Adobe InDesign is used to create brochures, banners, posters, magazines, newspaper, ebooks and flyers. They are good for print media. The ability of
Indesign to create document in EPUB and SWF format helps us to create digital publications such as e-books and magazines and also contents for computers.

It is a successor to Adobe Pagemaker. It is also the first desktop publishing software for Mac. The file extension in InDesign is .indd. This means that when you save files with the software, the name will end with .indd. You can export file as Portable Document Format (PDF). All the files created in earlier versions can be opened with newer version of Adobe InDesign. Newer versions of the software can save as .idml and .inx formats.

The workspace in Indesign has word processing (similar to the one obtainable in Microsoft Word). Due to poor formatting and lack of Microsoft word styles available in InDesign, a word processing program called InCopy is complimented to InDesign.

InDesign has been designed to integrate with Animate CC. This makes it possible to create animations and incorporate into e-books designed with InDesign. It also has footnote feature which we can utilize in multi paged documents. There are also enhancements in the OpenType fonts. The program is also integrated with Adobe Stock. Adobe Stock helps you to get materials for design.

You can open psd (Photoshop), ai (Illustrator), pdf  files using InDesign
